Saturday the 23rd of February will be the day that determines who will represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade. The show is returning to RÚV's Saturday entertainment schedule after a short Christmas break and is far from over yet, since there are no less than 7 shows still to be aired.
Tomorrow night'sshow will feature a recap of all things, good and bad, we've been treated to so far. It will also give viewers a "behind the scenes" look at the making of this year's preselection process. A special RÚV commity has chosen 3 songs from the 11that got a wildcard, to participate in the wildcard episode. These songs will also be announced tomorrow evening.
The Icelandic preselection process this year is a tad confusing and therefore it's not a bad idea to explain its next steps:
The 12th of January showwill contain the wildcard episode where the 3 songs chosen by RÚV will be performed to compete for a spot in the actual final!
The next four Saturdays, 19th January- 26th January – 2nd February and 9th February, will be elimination episodes. 3 songs are performed each night and 1 will be eliminated for good. These episodes willdetermine the last 8 finalists.
The 16th of February showis where the excitement for the grand finale will be hitting a boiling point! RÚV treats its viewers to a warm up show where all 8 finalists will perform their entries and have a lot of fun with the jury panel.
Iceland will reach its pre-Eurovision climax on the 23rd February. This is where the long journey thatbegan back on 6th October, 2007 will end. The 8 finalists will all perform their entries and only one song will end up recieving the honor of representing Iceland on the stage ofthe Eurovision Song Contestin Belgrade next May.
