Earlier today it was announced that Nadav Guedj, the winner of The Next Star and Israel’s representative for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest, will sing the song Golden boy in Vienna.

Right after the final of The Next Star last Tuesday, a committee of representatives from IBA and Teddy Productions & Keshet (production team of The Next Star) has met to discuss the Israeli entry for the contest. A number of entries was submitted and the chosen entry, as was announced by Yoav Ginai, is Golden boy, written by Doron Medali.

It will not be the first time of Doron as a member of the Israeli delegation as he directed the Israeli entries in 2008, 2010 and 2013. His visit to the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest has brought Israel one of its biggest summer hits, Omer Adam’s cover for the Greek entry, OPA. Except for the hebrew lyrics of OPA, he wrote numerous songs for artists like Eyal Golan, Sarit Hadad (Israel 2002), Harel Skaat (Israel 2010) and more.

UPDATE: The Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom has revealed Golden boy is an “uptempo mediterranean” song, and that for the first time, the Israeli entry will be sung completely in English. “With all respect to our beautiful language, we should adjust ourselves to what’s going on abroad. It will be easier to connect to a song in english”, said one of the committee members. This cancels IBA’s rule that the Israeli entry must be at least 50% in Hebrew (although last year’s entry Same heart had only 38%).

Nadav Guedj will participate in the second semifinal of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, hoping to take Israel to the final for the first time since 2010.
