As reported last week, Bearforce1, the new Dutch disco 'boyband', wants to represent the Netherlands next year at The Eurovision Song Contest. The news was picked up quickly by both national and international media. The news even reached Malta, after which Maltese songwriter Gerard James Borg decided to contact the management of the Dutch 'bears'.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reports this morning that Gerard James Borg got in touch with the management of Bearforce1 during the weekend. It appears Borg is interested to write the 2008 Eurovision entry for the band. The name Gerard James Borg will definitely ring a bell to the die hard Eurovision fan. Together with Philip Vella, he wrote several Eurovision entries already, such as Desire by Claudette Page (8th at the 2000 Eurovision Song Contest), 7th wonder by Ira Losco (2nd in 2002), On again…off again by Julie and Ludwig (12thplace at the 2004 contest). The duo was also responsible for this year's Maltese entry Vertigo, performed by Olivia Lewis, finishing 25th in the semi final.

If everything works out between Borg and Bearforce1, it will be the secondtime that Borg writes a song for the Dutch selection. Back in 2003, Borg and Vella also wrote the song Heatwave for Ebonique. The song reached 4th place in the national final, where Esther Hart's One more night was elected to represent the Netherlands that year in Riga.

The band's manager, Nick Rood, said about the interest for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest: "We're really serious about it!We think it'stime for a comical Dutch act, we've never sent one before. Besides that, I think Eastern Europe will definitely see the fun of it; and the guys can really sing of course!"

The popularity of the 4 bears is getting bigger and bigger in the meantime. Their management is searching for an extra member, a so called Spare Bear, because most of the guysstill have their regularjobs next to their musical career. Next week, Bearforce1 will fly to America for a series of performances.
