SMRTV, the Sammarinese national broadcaster has announced today that Michele Perniola and Anita Simoncini will represent San Marino at the forthcoming  2015 Eurovision Song Contest next year in Vienna.

After San Marino’s historical  qualification to the 2014 Eurovision grand final in Copenhagen with Valentina Monetta‘s Maybe, San Marino has selected a young and dynamic record-breaking duo to represent the country in Vienna. Both the artists Michele Perniola and Anita Simoncini are former Sammarinese Junior Eurovision representatives having represented the country in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Michele Perniola is no new name to the Eurovision world as he represented the tiny landlocked country at the 2013 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev last year with his entry O o O sole intorno a me. Anita Simoncini is also familiar to the Eurovision scene as she represented San Marino at the 2014 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with girlband The Peppermints in Malta and their entry Break my heart.

The 2015 Sammarinese duo

Michele Perniola (born 09/06/98) & Anita Simoncini (born 04/14/99) have been  chosen artists to represent the Republic of San Marino at the forthcoming 2015 Eurovision Song Contest. They’re both 16 years old and therefore are to be considered the youngest duo in the history of the contest while Anita alone sets up a new record, being the first and only artist to take part at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and at the main Eurovision Song Contest in a row.

Michele Perniola is the winner of the Rai 1 programme dedicated to the young talents called ‘Ti lascio una canzone’, 2012 edition, whilst in 2013 represented San Marino at the  Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the very same year when San Marino debuted in the contest.

Anita Simoncini has studied singing in a choir directed by the Sammarinese Maestro Fausto Giacomini and is currently studying with Linda Hermes. She’s the Sammarinese member of the girl band The Peppermints, the 2014 Sammarinese JESC representatives.

San Marino debuted at the Eurovision  Song Contest in 2008 with Miodio’s Complice. The country is yet to win the event, its best placing has been a 24th placing in 2014 when Valentina Monetta flew the Sammarinese flag in Copenhagen with her entry Maybe. San Marino has participated in the contest 5 times since its debut, having missed out from the event in 2009 and 2011.

San Marino qualified to the grand final in 2014 with Valentina’s 3rd Eurovision attempt for San Marino. Valentina represented San Marino in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is scheuduled to be held on 19, 21, 23 May at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna.
