Sibiu, the European capital of cultures, had the opportunity to host this years MTV Romania Music Awards. The show took place in the renovated central square of Sibiu (Piata mare).
Romanian Eurovision stars and hopefuls were nominatedin several categories. Specifically, Zdob si zdub, the folklore rock band which represented Moldova to the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev in 2005 with the song “Bunica bate toba” which alsowas a huge success in Romania, was nominated in the “Best Rock” category but unfortunately didn’t make it this year. The winner was Iris with their song “Vino pentru totdeauna”(Come forever).
3sud est, the male pop band, which tried to enter the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 when Luminita Anghel won the national final, was nominated for “Best Group” and “Best Song” with their hit “Lubire” and “Best dance” but they didn't win either. The same goes for Akcent, another boy band who also tried to enter the Eurovision Song Contest last year with their song Jokero but Mihai Traistariu won the national final. Akcent were nominated for “Best Group” and “Best Dance”.
Last year Mihai Traistariu was awarded for Best male while Zdob si Zdub for Best Rock. Unfortunately, this year no Eurostar won any awards and the absence of Todomondo’s Eurovision entry “Liubi liubi I love you” from the nomination categories shows that the 13th place in this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki was quite an achievement. "Itwas really a miracle" Dan Manoliu, the Romanian HoD, declared some days ago.It must be noted herethat Todomondo’s Eurovision entry hasn’t even entered the Romanian top 100 charts.
