Four countries applied to host the 6th Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Ukraine and Cyprus made it to the final round and finally the Steering Group decided to award the honour of hosting next year's competition to CyBC.
The 5th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will take place on 8th of December in the Ahoy' Arena in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and today the delegations meet in Hilversum to discuss the details of the upcoming event, where 18 countries will compete. Just seven months before the contest the Steering Group of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest awarded to the Cypriot Broadcaster CyBC the honour to host the 6th edition.
It's almost certain that the Cypriot Broadcaster will organise the event at Palais de sports in Limassol. Thehall has a capacity of 6255 seated spectators.
Svante Stockselius, Executive Supervisor of the Song Contests on behalf of the European Broadcasting Union, invited the participating broadcasters to bid for the 2009 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
The winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest does not automatically host next year's edition, to minimize pressure on the young participants.
