Azerbaijan: Dilara will Start A Fire in Copenhagen

Dilara Kazimova, the 2014 Azerbaijani representative will sing Start a fire in Copenhagen next May. Her Eurovision entry was released today along with its videoclip.

Dilara Kazimova is all set to Start a fire at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest when she takes the stage flying the Azerbaijani flag in Copenhagen next May.

Dilara Kazimova was declared the winner of the 2014 Azerbaijani national final on 2 March when she won the right to represent the Land of Fire (Azerbaijan) at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest.

Azerbaijan’s entry Dilara Kazimova will perform Start a Fire during the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, in the contest’s first Semi Final on the May 6 at B&W Hallerne in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The young, talented Dilara describes her entry song as ‘a confession of strong yet vulnerable women.’

The song is not just about love, but also about kindness, humanity and respect for each other,’ she said. ‘It’s also about being absolutely lonely in a world that can be so cruel.’

An established artist, Dilara is gaining popularity in Azerbaijan, and is about to attract a wider European audience. Dilara’s operatic training gives her impressive vocal diversity, and permits a repertoire that ranges from soul and opera to jazz and pop.

For Eurovision 2014, she says that she wanted a very special song. ‘Start a Fire is the best choice for me – says Dilara, – The melody is kind of hypnotizing and the story is deep and touching. It’s a bit tragic but with hope. I’m very much into the song and want to make my audiences feel its deep meaning.’

Start a Fire was written by a team of Johan Kronlund, Alessandra Gunthardt and Stefan Örn, author of Running scared  the 2011 Eurovision Azerbaijani winning entry. The song been chosen internally by the Azerbaijani national jury.

Azerbaijan has enjoyed massive success in the contest since their debut in 2008, achieving a total of 5 Top 5 placings out of their 6 participations, including a victory in 2011 (3rd in 2009, 5th in 2010, 1st in 2011, 4th in 2012,  2nd in 2013).

Azerbaijan debuted at the Eurovision Song Contestin 2008 and won the event on its 4th attempt in 2011 with Ell and Nikki’s Running Scared, thus bringing the contest to Baku in 2012.

Farid Mammadov represented Azerbaijan at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö achieving an honorable 2nd placing with his entry Hold me.
