Several Danish newspapers reported today that the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest might move from Copenhagen to Herning. Esctoday.com contacted Wonderful Copenhagen today, who have assured us that the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will not move from Copenhagen and that the contest will definately be held in the Danish capital next May.
Many Eurovision fans who are planning to travel to Copenhagen for the contest from all over Europe, have already bought their Eurovision tickets and paid for their flights and accomodation. After the alleged rumours surfaced on various news sites this morning many fans were concerned and worried regarding this matter.
Hence esctoday.com got in touch with Wonderful Copenhagen in order to clarify the matter and assure all Eurovision fans and its readers that the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will not move from Copenhagen. Head of Communications for Host City Copenhagen Emil Spangenberg has given esctoday.com the following communique:
The truth is nobody is threatening anybody. We have a good cooperation with the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, and no one is moving Eurovision Song Contest out of Copenhagen. We are building a spectacular music venue for this year’s show out of an old historic ship wharf. Doing so naturally involves risks of extra costs, which we could not have foreseen until we got access to the venue and began construction. We are confident and excited to welcome thousands of Eurovision fans to Copenhagen in May.
Copenhagen will be hosting the Eurovision Song Contest for the 3rd time next May, having hosted the event at the Tivoli theatre in 1964 and at the Parken Stadium in 2001. The Danish capital also hosted the 50th anniversary show of the Eurovision Song Contest – Congratulations in 2005 at the Forum.
The 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will be held at the B&W Hallerne in Copenhagen on 6,8,10 May. Stay tuned to more news on Denmark and the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest.
