Esctoday.com has been informed that the final of the Icelandic national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2007, will take place on Saturday 17th February. The three semi-finals will take place on 20th January, 27th January and 3rd February. The songs must be performed in Icelandic in the national Semi-Finals and final but can be performed in English, or another language, at the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki.

RÚV have officially confirmed to esctoday.com that188 songs were submitted RÚV for Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2007, which is slightly less than last years total of 216. They believe that this is because of the new rule limiting each songwriter to only 3 songs for submission. Now an internal specialist jury has begun the process of selecting 24 songs to compete in the 3 semi-finals. Televoting will be used to select the songs that pass to the final and then to select Iceland's 2007 Eurovision Song Contest entry.

RÚV are satisfied with last year's production teamm fom Base Camp Productions, and have confirmed that once again they are handing the job of organising Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins production to the company for 2007.

Kristin Erna Arnardottir will be RÚV's contact with BaseCamp,in the role of RÚV's project manager in the National Competition, and will, as reported yesterday, subtitute Jonatan Gardarsson. In a correction to the news yesterday that was picked up across the internet from the morgunbladid newspaper, no decision has yet been taken on who will succeed Mr. Gardarsson as the Head of Delegation for Helsinki.

Iceland will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest semi-final on 10th May in Helsinki after Silvia Night failed to qualify for the final in 2006. She finished 13th in the semi-final with 62 points, 14 less than the tenth placed country.
