One thing very high on many fans’ wish list would have been to see ABBA play a role in May, when the Eurovision Song Contest once again returns to Sweden.
The band members have repeatedly dismissed any hope of an ABBA reunion, but half of the legendary band will be part of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest final in Malmö.
The Eurovision anthem, called We write the story, will be the opening number of the 18 May final in Malmö.
Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, the two male members of ABBA, have composed this specially commissioned new piece of music, and it has been reworked by top Swedish dance music producer, remixed and DJ Avicii (real name Tim Bergling, 23).
The collaboration was high on Swedish Television’s (SVT) wish list from the very beginning.
The songwriters were given a brief on the core values of the Swedish hosting of this years song contest, highlighting the equality of all people and togetherness.
Martin Österdahl, the executive producer for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest says in this way we can bring together the story of Swedish music exports. It is almost 40 years since ABBA shot to international fame by winning the Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton, and Avicii are riding high in the international charts today, he says.
Avicii’s Executive Producer Ash says he is delighted to be working together with two of the greatest names in Swedish music export.
