Every year, there is an extensive cultural programme in the weeks prior to the Eurovision Song Contest, to make sure that the participants relax and get to know the host city. The Kyiv International Festival of Sand Sculpture will be one of the cultural events organised during this year's Eurovision Song Contest. The venue for the festival will be Trukhaniv Island, on a short distance of the camping.
The official opening of the festival will take place on May 15, the awards ceremony will follow two weeks later. The winners of the event will be honored on 29th May.
This year's festival will focus on the essential role of music in the cultural life of modern society, and the name for the official theme of the event will be The Alley of Stars. One of the sculptures will be dedicated to Ukraine's last year Eurovision winner Ruslana.
The participants of the Kyiv International Festival of Sand Sculpture are young artists, designers and sculptors from Ukraine, Poland, China, Russia, South-Korea and Afghanistan.
