A new trend has been set in the Ukrainian music industry. As a result of Ruslana's Eurovision Song Contest victory, Hutsul-inspired music is experiencing a new revival in Ukraine. The story made the headlines of BBC's news website today.

Ruslana's winning Eurovision Song Contest song Wild dances is inspired on the music of an ancient mountain tribe who live in Western Ukraine. The Hutsul people's traditions are based on paganism and so, during Soviet times, their culture was suppressed.

But as a result of Ruslana's victory, this music from the mountains is experiencing a new revival and pop music which celebrates traditional influences has got more fashionable in Ukraine lately.
