Yet another long running TV programme has a junior version being broadcast. This time it is a junior version of the quiz show Mastermind. Starting this week from August 31st on BBC1 at 20:00 CET, ten and eleven year olds will answer questions on their specialist subjects as well as general knowledge questions to find a Junior Mastermind Champion.

The original series started on the BBC in 1972, presented then by Magnus Magnusson. Phrases such as I've started so I'll finish and Pass have become part of popular culture, as contestants sit in the famous black chair. They each have two minutes to answer questions on their specialist subject, followed by a second round of general knowledge questions. Contestants compete not for some fortune, but simply the title of being Mastermind.

Over the years, such long running television programmes such as Coronation Street ,Star Trek, and Doctor Who have appeared as specialist subjects. On one of the editions to be broadcast this week, one of the specialist subjects will be the Eurovision Song Contest. And it's Lewis Rendell, one of our forum members, that features in the show!

In 1994 as part of their Eurovision Song Contest previews, the BBC included a special Mastermind quiz, this time between Eurovision fans, with Terry Wogan acting as the quizmaster. The winner was David Bridgman from the United Kingdom, who was presented with his prize from four time contest presenter Katie Boyle.

This time it is John Humphreys who will pose the questions. Viewers can try and compare their Eurovision knowledge by watching Junior Mastermind on BBC1 at 20:00 CET (19:00 UK time) on Tuesday 31st August. And don't forget to support our own Lewis from Essex!

On behalf of the esctoday.com team: good luck Lewis ánd the other participants! May the best one win!
