The Czech public broadcaster Česká Televize is showing interest in participation at next year's Eurovision Song Contest. As we reported earlier this week, Eurovision Song Contest supervisor Svante Stockselius talked about a contest with more than 40 countries in 2005. The Czech Republic might be one of the newcomers.

After the management team of Česká Televize has been completely changed, the Czech public broadcaster is showing interest again in a Eurovision Song Contest entrance.

The Czech public broadcaster used to fear the financial risks attached to a Eurovision Song Contest participation. However, after seeing the success of the Idols format Česko hleda superstar on the commercial broadcaster Nova, the Czech TV wants to engage as well for music promotion and to reach the same high viewing ratings.

Česká Televize is still negotiating with the European Broadcasting Union at the moment. A final decision on the participation at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest will be made in September. The winner of Česko hleda superstar has been named as a possible representative.
