Days before the 1 December deadline to withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest 2004, the Hungarian broadcaster MTV decided not to take part in 2004, but to postpone its participation to 2005.

The Hungarian broadcaster wants more time to select an appropriate Eurovision entry. The country participated between 1994 and 1998, with the 1994 contest as best result: a fourth place thanks to Friderika Bayers.

As MTV withdrew before the 1 December deadline, it won't have financial conseqences for the broadcaster.
