RTP, the Portuguese national broadcaster, has confirmed to ESCToday that Portugal will participate at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Israel.

Boa tarde Europe, this is Lisbon calling! The 2018 Eurovision host country will be flying to Israel for Eurovision 2019! Thus Portugal joins the list of countries who so have confirmed their participation at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv.

Portugal will yet again select its Eurovision entry and act via its traditional national selection Festival da Cançao as has been the case in recent years.

RTP has published the rules and regulations for Festival da Cançao 2019 and has kicked off its quest to search for the 2019 Portuguese Eurovision hopeful and entry.

Portugal in Eurovision

Portugal debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964 and has won the competition once, namely in 2017 with Salvador Sobral‘s Amor pelo dois. The country successfully hosted the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.

Portugal has competed 50 times in Europe’s favorite television show.

In 2018 Claudia  Pascoal & Isaura were crowned the winners of Festival da Cançao and had the honour to defend the Portuguese colours at the Eurovision Song Contest on home soil with their entry O Jardim. Despite a beautiful peformace the 2018 ESC host nation finished last in the Grand Final.
