He is Mister Eurovision in Sweden. He successfully conducted his country’s victory in 2012 and 2015 and organised the Eurovision Song Contest three times, in 2013, 2016 and 2017. Now he wants more: Christer Björkman wants Sweden to win again by 2021.

The French public recently discovered him during the first semi-final of Destination Eurovision, as he was the international juror announcing the points from Sweden.

In an interview with Télé-loisirs.fr, Christer Björkman talked about France in Eurovision and the role of international juries. But most importantly, he announced his plan to bring Sweden to victory again by 2021, when he plans to stop producing Melodifestivalen.

France to aim the top 10

Björkman was very pleased about this year’s French national selection, Destination Eurovision. He said that it is the right time for the country to organise a public selection. Moreover, he affirmed that France could aim a spot in the top 10 this year in Lisbon.

A seventh victory for Sweden?

The 60-year old producer from Borås, Sweden, has achieved a lot during his career. He represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 1992 in Malmö with the song I morgon är en annan dag, ranking 22nd out of 23 participants.

Since 2002 he has been the supervisor of Melodifestivalen, the famous Swedish national selection. Under his coordination Sweden took the trophy home twice, in 2012 and 2015. Björkman was also the Show Producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, in 2016 in Stockholm and again in 2017 in Kiev.

He will leave his job at Melodifestivalen in 2021, and there is one last thing he wants to achieve: the seventh Swedish victory at Eurovision. This would make Sweden – along with Ireland – the most successful country in the Eurovision history.
