The Netherlands: All about O’G3NE and their Eurovision participation

Yesterday, Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS announced that popular girl band O’G3NE will represent the Netherlands at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. Their participation was subject to many rumours and much speculation in the past months, so following the confirmation let’s take a closer look at the three sisters, and what we can expect regarding their entry.

O’G3NE are rising stars within the Dutch music scene, winning the fifth season of the popular TV show The Voice Of Holland in 2014, releasing a number 1 album and currently doing a successful Dutch tour.

The three sisters Lisa, Amy and Shelley Vol are certainly no strangers to the Eurovision stage, as they represented the Netherlands at the 2007 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam as Lisa, Amy & Shelley, earning the 11th place with their song Adem in, adem uit (Breath in, breath out).

Since then, the girls have continuously worked on their career, changing their name to O’G3NE, which is a reference to the blood-type or gene “O” of their mother, and their connection as 3 sisters.

Known for their unique close harmony sound and powerful singing skills, O’G3NE won The Voice Of Holland in 2014, strengthening their position within the Dutch music scene and signifying their mainstream breakthrough. The girl group has become immensely popular, not only due to their harmonious sound, but also because of their charming nature.

O’G3NE from the beginning

Lisa (1994) and twins Amy and Shelley (1995) were born in the city of Dordrecht, and now reside in the village of Fijnaart, in the province North-Brabant. Starting with singing from an early age, the girls received a record contract with EMI Music after their participation in Junior Eurovision 2007 and later they signed with Cloud9 Music, releasing a string of hits for children and young adults.

As Lisa, Amy & Shelley, they furthermore released two albums, 300 % and Sweet 16. The girls currently release their work in their own management. Following their victory in The Voice Of Holland, they also participated in the TV show De Beste Zangers Van Nederland (The Best Singers Of The Netherlands), again to much critical acclaim.

O’G3NE repeatedly expressed their desire to represent the Netherlands at the Eurovison Song Contest and they signed the deal with broadcaster AVROTROS just in the past week, according to newspaper AD surpassing Waylon (Eurovsion 2014 as part of The Common Linnets) and singers Dotan and Van Velzen, who all declined for several reasons.

So, what can we expect from O’G3NE’s song and act?

The group has recently released their highly successful third album We got this, which landed the number 1 spot of the Dutch Top 100 album chart, but has decided to search for a brand new song to perform in Kyiv. There has been contact with composers and the sisters will have the final choice for the song, opting for quality and significance:

We would like to perform a meaningful song in Kyiv, and our close harmony singing will certainly be a prominent feature. In the end, we will simply choose the best song.

The song will most likely be presented to the public in the spring of 2017, February or March.

O’G3NE is very excited and proud to represent their country at the ESC:

We will do everything to make the Netherlands proud! We would like to bring Eurovision to the Netherlands. We feel that the Netherlands deserves that, it is our mission.
