Romania: Ovidiu Anton wins Selectia Nationala

Ovidiu Anton has won the Romanian national final and will represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. 

Tonights show saw the six finalists perform again for the right to represent Romania at the contest in Stockholm later this year.

Ovidiu was chosen as the winner and he will fly the Romanian colours with the song Moment of silence.

Florena and Vanotek finished as runner-ups.

The result was decided by a public vote alone.

The six finalists were chosen after the semi-final, which took place on Friday.

In Friday’s semi-final, the 12 shortlisted acts performed their entries for the first time. Four qualifiers were decided by the jury, which included Romania’s 2013 representative Cezar, with two more chosen via a public vote between the remaining songs.

Ovidiu Anton will now start his preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest in May. At the contest, Romania will perform in the second half of the second semi-final on 12 May.

Last year, Romania were represented by the group Voltaj. The band won the Romanian national final with their song De la capat.

The band took a bi-lingual version of their song to the contest, where they finished 15th in the grand final with 35 points.
