Sixty three songs were submitted to the Ukrainian broadcaster for the country's preselection for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Thirty of them will be selected by a jury to proceed to the two semi finals which will take place in February.

NTU, the Ukrainian national broadcaster will be holding two semi finals on February 7th & February 8th in the NTU studios. Both semi finals will be recorded and the two hour long TV version-documentary will be aired on the First National channel including footage of the selection process and full semi finals. The exact date of the final has not been decided yet but 1st March is a possibility. For the venue, one option is the Sports Palace in Kyiv, home of the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest but that remains to be decided as NTU are currently looking for sponsors.

Among them many big names of the Ukrainian music scene as well as many artists who have attempted to represent their country in the Eurovision Song Contest: Svetlana Loboda is a former VIA GRA band member, Alexander Panaiotov tried his luck in the Russian NF 2008, NeAngely, Bondarchuk, Godo and Aviator tried again in 2007, – Nataliya Volkova in 2006, Volya in 2005. NikitA is one member of Dasha Astaf'yeva, she appeared on the jubilee Playboy issue and she also became playmate of the year, Kishe, Oleg Skrypka is the front man of ethno rock band VV, possibly the most experienced singer of the whole NF). –
