Iceland: two acts qualified for the national final

The first of four semi finals in the Icelandic selection for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest was held tonight. Four acts competed and two were chosen to move forward to the national final on 14th February.

The following acts have qualified for the national final:

  • Jóhanna Guðrún JónsdóttirIs it true
  • Edgar Smári AtlasonThe kiss we never kissed

The following acts are eliminated from the competition:

  • Heiða ÓlafsdóttirDagur nýr
  • Ólöf Jara SkagfjörðHugur minn fylgir þér poll results

The readers partly agreed with the Icelandic televoters: Runaway poll winner Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir (44.8%)qualified for the national final while runner-up Heiða Ólafsdóttir (22.4%)was eliminated from the competition. The second qualifier, Edgar Smári Atlason (17.9%), finished third in the poll.

In 2008, Iceland was represent by Euroband. The duo finishedeighth in the second semi final and 14th in the final with their entry This is my life.
