Despite rumours on the internet to the contrary, esctoday.com can confirm that as yet ORF has no definite plans to return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009.

A spokesperson from ORF confirmed toesctoday.com that there are currently no plans for an Austrian participation in the 2009 contest, but that a proper decision would be made in the Autumn.

Austria withdrew in 2006 citing that Austria has poor chances to do well in the competition, before returning in 2007, only to end 2nd last in the semi final and withdraw again in 2008 for the same reasons.

At the moment, it seems very unlikely that Italy, Monaco, Luxembourg or Moroccowill return to the contest in 2009, but Slovakia, who were last seen in 1998, may be a safer bet.
