The country that will open the Eurovision Song Contest 2003, Iceland, presented the national final songs this evening. 15 songs, selected out of 190 entries, will be performed at Songvakeppnin 2003 on February 15th.

Between the participants the name of Birgitta Haukdal can be found. She also participated in the national final of 2001. The most remarkable song title might be Eurovísa.

Broadcaster RÚV clearly wants to make the Eurovision Song Contest and the national final more popular. They chose the cinema and concert venue Háskólabíó as the location for Songvakeppnin 2003, instead the RÚV studio where the event took place in the past years.
