Estonian Nature Foundation made a proposal to Estonian Television (ETV) to make the next year Eurosong the first “Green Eurovision” in the Eurovision history. They suggest to use environmentally friendly technology and Estonian natural resorces should be exposed.

In the application of Estonian Nature Foundation (ELF) to the main organizer of Eurosong 2002 Juhan Paadam the foundation compares the song contest with Olympic Games in Sydney which were the first green olympics.

Green Eurovision means that everything concerning all kinds of orders should be audited by environmentalists and only environmentally friendly products and services are used. For example solar batteries and hydrogen based elements for supplying the venue with electricity. On the other hand nature protection and environment can also be used in the visual materials, from broschures to the postcards between the competing songs.

The CEO of ELF Toomas Trapido sayed to Estonian News Agency (ETA) that ELF also offers the contestans to make a nature trips for them. In his opinion these activities can also help finding extra sponsors.

The organizer of Eurosong 2002 Juhan Paadam sayed to ETA that organizing commitee will discuss the proposal in the near future. He sayed that the organizing commitee gets hundreds of proposals from companies and organizations from all over the world. “That means that people care about the contest”, sayed Paadam.

ELF will be ready together with Danish environment consultant firm NEPCon start all necessary work right away if the answer would be positive.
