Miodio, Sanmarinese representatives in the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade, spoke exclusively to esctoday.coms accomplice in Italy, Yiorgos Kasapoglou. The band will perform 5th in the first semi-final on 20th May followed by one of their favourite entries this year, Belgium! They also exclusively reveal the involment of a sixth person on stage! Check out what they said to esctoday.com

Miodio stands for Mi odio (I hate myself) or Mio Dio (My God!)?

The correctmeaning is Mi odio…it’s a provocative name, maybe a little bit self-destructive…but we believe that everyone in lifehas been hated for having or having not done something…the important thing isto react and we are doing it through our music.

Which have been the most important “steps” of the band since its “birth” to date?

The most important steps have been:
-Participation at the XII Biennale of young artists from Europe and Mediterranean in Naples
-Winners of the Viva Music Award and Most Original Song Award of the Bologna 2006 Festival delle Arti. Artistic direction by Andrea Mingardi
-Winners of the XVII Festival of San Marino with the song “It’s O.K.”
-Participation in the tv programme “Matinée”, in RAI 2
-Participation in “MpZero Tour 2007” of Renato Zero as supporting acts: Olympic Stadium, SanSiro Stadium, Euganeo Stadium, Franchi Stadium, Arena della Vittoria in Bari and Velodromo in Palermo for a total of more than 500.000 spectators

Last year you worked with Renato Zero (famous established Italian star); what advice you’ve been given by him?

Renato Zero is an incredible person! An artist with innumerous virtues who always manages to give space and visibility to emerging young artists. There have been so manytips that we’ve received…some of them are to be always ourselves and never forget all theeffort made and the people that were close to us.

Whose idea was to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest? Did you have any “accomplice” at this project?

When we got to know that San Marino’s RTV would participate at this international contest, we of the band, unanimously, instantly decided to send our song. For sure our "accomplice" has been our label Opera Prima that in the person of Andrea Felli assisted us in the mixage of the song. The workwas really good .

How does it feel being San Marino’s first representatives in the Eurovision Song Contest?

It is always aquestion of pride to represent a country in an international competition. San Marino has an active reality in sport events but in musical ones does not yet have a real and proper identity. This multiplies our responsibilities and pushes us to face the Eurovision Song Contest with much more professionalism and tenacity.

Who are the authors of Complice ? Tell us about your song…

Complice was born by the huge musical talent of Francesco Sancisi (Sancho, keyboard & sampling) and of Nicola Della Valle (Vocals) who penned the song. Of course, as it is always the case, the rest of the band participated in an active and essential way in the arrangement of the song. It’s a piece with a deep meaning that we believe a lot in and offers us always many emotions when performing live. “It’s dedicated to my inspiring muse, whose presence and sweetness is accompanying each of my steps”, Nicola explains.

Do you intend to visit any country in order to promote your song? If yes have you already decided the stops of your promo tour?

For the moment werely onthe help of the internet that, with a simple “click”, allows us to reach the most remote and distant places. We’ve already received many positive opinions from our European colleagues and this make us more enthusiastic. We are sure that in Belgrade there will be an incredible show as the songs are really nice and diverse.

San Marino takes part in the first semi-final; did you listen to the other participating entries and if yes which ones do you like more?

We’ve already heard many of the participating entries of our semi-final and we haveto admit that there are some really nice and particular works. We are caught of the Belgian entry but also by the Finnish band which is, no doubt, thrilling. We repeat that there will be for sure avaried show of high level.

Who would be your ideal “accomplice” on stage of Belgrade?

At the moment we’re working on the choreography that will involve for sure a sixth person. We can’t say more, but this “accomplice's” presence willcertainly be an addedvalue to our performance.

Nicola stated right after your selection that he couldn’t believe all this is true. Do you believe it now?

Having arrived to this point it must be believed! We got this incredible opportunity and we’ll try to excite the millions of spectators with our music and our show…and we’re sure that the hot public in Belgrade will be our “accomplice”.

Esctoday.com would like to thank Miodio for their interview and wish them good luck!
