RTCG, the Montenegrin national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday Montenegro’s preliminary participation at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest next year.

Thus Montenegro is the 36th country to confirm its intention to compete at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm next May.

The period for countries to apply for participation at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest concluded on 15 September. Hereafter applicant countries have a grace period until 10 October to decide if they are to stay or not in the competition without facing a financial penalty. So far a total of 36 countries have confirmed their intention to participate at next year’s Eurovision extravaganza.

The final list of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest participants is expected to be released by the EBU by late December.

Montenegro will more than likely select its Eurovision act and entry for Stockholm via an internal selection.

In 2015 Montenegro selected its Eurovision act and entry via an internal selection as has been the tradition since its debut in the competition in 2007. Knez flew the Montenegrin flag in Vienna with his entry Adio, achieving a 13th  place in the grand final.

Montenegro debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007 and is yet to win the event. The country’s best placing in the competition was achieved in 2015 with Knez’s Adio, when Montenegro placed 13th in the grand final in Vienna.

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 10, 12 and 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
