Australia: SBS confirms participation in Eurovision 2016

SBS, the Australian national broadcaster has confirmed that Australia will participate at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest next year in Stockholm.

Australia is the 40th country to have confirmed its participation at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest schedueled to be held next May in Stockholm.

The EBU (European Broadcasting Union) and the SBS have announced today that Australia will return to the contest next year. Australia will compete in one of the 2 semifinals of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. It is yet to be determined if the Aussies will become permanent members of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Australia debuted at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna with Guy Sebastian and placed 5th in the grand final. The Aussies got a Wild Card to compete in the grand final in Vienna and got the chance in all 3 Eurovision shows.

Guy Sebastian was selected via an internal selection to fly the Aussie flag in Vienna. He made his country proud with his entry Tonight again.

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 10, 12 and 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
