CyBC, the Cypriot national broadcaster has announced today that Hovig will represent Cyprus at the forthcoming 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv.

Cyprus is the first country to reveal its representative for the upcoming Eurovision edition scheduled to be held in Ukraine next May.

Hovig is no new face when it comes to Eurovision, he’s tried to represent Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest twice, namely in 2010 and 2015.

He competed at the 2015 Cypriot Eurovision national selection with his entry Stone in a river.  Hovig Dermirjian is of Armenian origin and is based in Cyprus, he has participated in the 2nd season of  X-Factor Greece, hence he enjoys recognition both in Cyprus and Greece.

Hovig’s Eurovision song will be composed by none other than Thomas G:son who has composed and produced a number of past Eurovision entries: Sweden 2006, 2012 (winning entry),  Georgia (2013, 2016), Cyprus (2016),  Spain (2012, 2015).

The 2017 Cypriot Eurovision entry is yet to be revealed and is expected to be released in the coming months.

Cyprus debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 an is yet to win the competition. The country achieved its best placing the contest in 1982, 1997 and 2004 when it came 5th.

The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 9, 11 and 13 May at the IEC in Kyiv.
