Nikolas Metaxas is just 19 years old and he is lucky enough to see two of his own songs qualifying to the 2008 Cypriot final for the Eurovision Song Contest. Nikolas spoke exclusively to esctoday.com about his songs and we are happy to present you with a sneak preview of the story behind I can't be and Butterfly. Nikolas will soon be releasing his debut CD single early next year. Lonely will be released in Cyprus and online in January 2008.

Nikolas Metaxas was born in New York nineteen years ago and he was raised in his homeland Cyprus. He has been composing and performing his own songs since he was twelve years old and he has won many national singing awards. The young composer and singer spoke exclusively to esctoday.com about his participation in the forthcoming Cypriot final, in which he participates with not one but two songs he composed and penned himself. I can't be talks about a broken relationship, and states that one cannot change who he/she is for the other person. It is a powerful ballad with an interesting climax." says Nikolas. About his second song, Butterfly, Nikolas reveals: "The song is slow moving, with a powerful climax and a moving performance. The music makes you wonder if the song was taken right out of a West-End show."

What does Nikolas Metaxas expects from a possible participation in the Eurovision Song Contest? "To share my feelings through my music, and transfer them further on, is enough for my inner satisfaction." he says.

Is there a recipe for winning Eurovision and what did Nikolas have in mind when writing his songs? What does he think about Cyprus' chances to qualify given the new format?

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
