The Spanish duo Azúcar Moreno, Spain's representatives in Eurovision 1990, are retiring “temporarily” from the show business after one of the Salazar sisters, Encarna, has been diagnosed with a breast tumour. Encarna is already under chemotherapy treatment.

Encarna Salazar (pictured left) visited the hospital some days ago for an ordinary medical check, but she wasdiagnosed witha breast tumour.

The Spanish TV programme Está pasando, aired by the commercial station Telecinco, has this afternoon quoted Toñi Salazar, Encarna's sister and professional partner: "Encarna Salazar suffers from breast tumour and is being treated with chemotherapy. This diagnosis came out after an ordinary check. Therefore, the duo retires temporarily from the music scene because the most important thing now is Encarna's recovery".

Azúcar Moreno were currently developing several projects, such as a new CD and several scheduled galas. Hopefully, all of them will see the light after Encarna recovers.

The duo represented Spain in the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest, held in Zagreb (then Yugoslavia). Their song Bandido, an uptempo flamenco-pop theme, got to5th place in that year's scoreboard.
