Flemish broadcaster VRT has received no less than 450 entries for Eurosong 2008, the Belgian selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. Last night, all entries for next year's Belgian Eurovision Song Contest selections should have arrived at Flemish broadcaster VRT. After the deadline, VRT counted 450 songs, which were submitted by about 400 different artists, Het Nieuwsblad reported this morning.
After360 entries in 2004 and 321in 2006,the number of songs submitted has increased dramatically. This can probably be explained by the fact that theduration of the submission period, which was launched on 24th April, lasted twice as long as in 2006, partner website www.belgovision.com reports.
The potential participant field for Eurosong 2008 is a mixture of well-known Flemish singers andnewcomers. Among the submitted songs are many international compositions: Songwriters from the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Malta, Sweden among and other countries make a bid in the Belgian selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008.
VRT will now select 28 out of the 450 submitted songsto be presented in four heats, starting Sunday 27th January. Half of the songs will be chosen for the two semi finals and again half of them for the national final on 9th March.
