Sir Terry Wogan has been the only celebrity to receive a fee for fronting BBC's charity Children in need and he has received critisism by the media for that. This year, he has decided to waive his £9.000 fee although the broadcaster claims that the amount does not come from the charity's funds but from the channel's own budget.

In 2006, Sir Terry received £10,340 and another £9,065 in 2005 according to reports in the British daily press, and he has been receiving this "honorarium", as BBC calls it, ever since he started anchoring the event in 1980. A BBC spokeswoman stated that the fee was never even remotely commercial "We are not ashamed to pay him and see no reason why it should not continue. If It wasn't for Sir Terry, Children In Need would not be what it is today," she said. Terry Wogan said that he would happily do it for nothing.

Today's show will feature Kylie Minogue and the the recently reunited Spice Girls. Fearne Cotton who co-hosted the UK national final for the Eurovision Song Contest this year together with Terry Wogan will be present as well.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
