As it looks likely that the anticipated duet by Carola and Andreas Johnsson will not materialise as a Melodivestivalen 2008 entry, news of another possible popular duet has hit the Swedish newspapers. Lena Philipsson seems set to return to the competition duetting with the songwriter that delivered her success at the 2004 event.

The Lena Philipsson / Orup partnership has already won Melodifestivalen, after she sung his song Det gφr ont. The song was translated into English as It hurts for the Eurovision Song Contest and Lena took a joint 5th place for Sweden.

The pair have been touring together in Sweden, but there are notable gaps in the schedule including openings for a semi final appearance, Second Chance round appearance on March 8th and of course a trip to Globen on March 15th!

"We hold those weeks open in case an enquiry should come", Lena's manager My Strφback confirmed to Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet. It is highly unlikely that Lena will participate against Carola. The two Swedish divas are known to avoid sharing the stage with one another and if this speculation turns out to be true, it would mean an end to the possibility of Carola returning to the competition in 2008.

esctoday.com would like to thank Andreas Davidsson for his contribution to this article.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
