The rules for the selection of the song representing Bosnia-Herzegovina at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade have now been made available to the public. Two public calls is the name of the game this year – one to select the song, the other to select the performer.

Bosnia-Herzegovina's national broadcaster (BHRT) has published itsrules on the selection of both the song and the performer to represent the country at the 2008 Contest in Belgrade (the full English text is available at www.bhrt.ba). As it appears, BHRT has decided to give the 2004 national selection method another go, as the internal expert commission will have a two-fold job – selecting the song, as well as selecting the performer. Here are some of the highlights:

  • applications to BHRT are to be made by 10th December 2007
  • the lyrics must be in the languages of the constitutional peoples of Bosnia-Herzegovina, in the ijekavian dialect (however, the song may be translated into English, French or any other language, for the Contest purposes)
  • the performers must have at least 3 years of TV or concert experience, 2 released albums, and 3 high-quality music videos
  • applicants must hold the citizenship of Bosnia-Herzegovina

Another interesting fact about Bosnia-Herzegovina's 2008 selection is that the commission will also select the second and third-placed songs.

The song representing Bosnia-Herzegovina at the 2008 Contest in Belgrade will first be announced to the public following the most recent tradition of a Sunday prime time TV show. This time, the song will be presented in a prime-time live special on Sunday, 2 March 2008 on BHRT and BHT SAT.
