The first ever OGAE Luxembourg convention and party took place last month at the Kulturschapp Cultural Center. With a record number of 110 attendees, the convention is considered to be a great success. Anne-Marie David and Simone Weis attended and performed at the convention which attracted the attention of local media. The 1973 Eurovision Song Contest winner promised to use her influence to help make the fans' dream to see the European micro state back in the contest come true.

Many OGAE clubs organise yearly conventions and it was about time for us to do so as well. We wanted to do something Eurovision related in Luxembourg” says Eric Lehmann, president of the club and host of the evening, “attract the attention of the nation to the contest and make the spirit of Eurovision relive in Luxembourg”. The convention was attended by members of the Luxembourgish political scene, local media representatives and local as well as international fans from Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Poland, Sweden, Spain, Portugal and Bulgaria.

Anne-Marie David, the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest winner and Simone Weis (1993 with Modern Times) were both present as guests. Both ladies sang their Eurovision entries. Anne-Marie also performed Après toi, which was enthusiastically received by the audience, her 1979 entry and Un Jour, un enfant by the late Frida Boccara, a good friend of Anne-Marie’s when alive.

Before starting her performance, Anne-Marie David, stated that it is about time something was done to persuade the local broadcaster to return to the Eurovision Song Contest. She promised to do all in her power to help the fans' long time dream come true, something that, naturally, made the audience go wild!

The highlight of the evening was a live contest with fans performing live favourite Eurovision songs. The winner was Ukraine with "Verka Serduchka" and Lasha Tumbai, followed by France with L'oiseau et l'enfant and Greece in third place with My number one.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
