The second semi final of the Icelandic selection for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest took place tonight. Three singers performed one song each and the winner was chosen by televoting: Pálmi Gunnarsson will take part in the national final on 16th Febraury with his song Leigubílar.

Magnús Eiríksson, composer ofLeigubílar, was also the composer of Gledibankinn, Iceland's very first song contest entry in 1986 which finished 16th, performed by the group Icy. Pálmi Gunnarsson himself was a member of the group (after actually having won the 1986 Icelandic final as a solo artist) and also took part in the Icelandic final in 1986 with another two songs (Syngdu lag and Út vil ek) and in 1988 (10th with Eitt vor).
