Piero Esteriore the Null-point Eurovision Song Contest singer from 2004 was taken to jail in the last two hours after ramming his car into editorial offices of the Swiss tabloid newspaper Blick. Several different news outlets in Switzerland are reporting the unusual, breaking story.
Newspaper columnist and tabloid editor Gion Mathias Cavelty wrote in today's edition of the Blick that Piero's recent celebrity birthday celebration looked like a "mafia-funeral" before he made fun of the 2004 Null-point Swiss entry "Celebrate" and generally mocked the singer, his family, and his come-back album release "Io vivo" calling it "Io pizza". Piero's mother has told the press that she spoke on the phone with Piero this morning and that he was extremely upset by the column.
Something upset the hairdresser and singer so much that he rammed a Mercedes into the offices of the tabloid at 12.15 today. He drove his car through the glass doors at the main entry to the building and left the Mercedes partway inside the offices. He allegedly jumped out of the car yelling that he would castrate the reporter who wrote the offensive report.
This could be a publicity stunt for the new album due next week; according to one radio station Piero's record company is already peddling interviews. The record company has for its part denied this is a PR gag, and the police have taken the situation seriously. At least two officers arrived to arrest Piero Esteriore.
Update According to newer reports Piero went into the Blick's building after ramming it with the car and angrily threw previously autographed CDs to people inside as well as spectators standing around (see video in links). Meanwhile a spokesperson for the Zurich police department has now confirmed that the singer has indeed been temporarily taken into custody while they investigate today's sequence of events.
