The Icelandic national final for the Eurovision Song Contetst will be held on 16th February. This Saturday, RÚV will be the first broadcaster to kick off its televised selection for Belgrade. After a series of 11 semi finals and a second chance round, 12 entries will compete in Söngvakeppni Sjonvarpsins 2008.

You can read more about the selection procedure here.

In 2005, 2006 and 2007, Iceland did not manage to reach the final of the Eurovision Song Contest although the country was sometimes quite close finishing 16th, 13th and again 13th in the semi final respectively. Therefore, Iceland will have to start in the semi final once again in Belgrade.
