Czech Republic will be participating in the Eurovision Song Contest this year for the second time. Czeská televize has confirmed to esctoday.com that they will be organising one national final again this year with 10 entries that will be internally selected. This year, though, the Czech broadcaster aims at a more pop selection with more impressive stage shows than last year.

The Czech nantional final will be held towards the end of January 2008. Ten acts will compete and the winner will be decided by both televoting and internet voting. This year Česká televize wishes to invite other Eurovision participants to perform during the national final and the Czech representatives will take part as guests in other national finals as well.

In 2007, Czech Republic debuted with Mala dama, a daring, purely hard rock entry by Kabat but only scored one point in the semi final. In a communication with esctoday.com, the new Head of the Czech Delegation told us that this year they are looking for a more pop selection with singers or bands that will offer a bigger stage show.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain.

I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
