NRK has announced that 600 songs have been submitted to participate in the 2008 Melodi Grand Prix competition to select Norway's Eurovision Song Contest entry.

The number is substantially higher than last year, when 464 songs were submitted. Norway's national broadcaster accepts songs from outside the geographic borders, and has seen many swedish song writers entering the competition. Thomas G:son wrote the 2007 winning entry and runner-up. This year, many swedes are believed to have entered the competition along with entries from the United Kingdom, Israel and Denmark.

The submitted entries will now be reviewed by a panel at NRK who will select 18 songs to participate in three semi finals and then select the artists to perform them. More details will be released shortly regarding the three cities chosen to host the semi finals. The final is expected to take place at the Spektrum in Oslo once again.
