Ira Losco, the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest runner up, spoke to esctoday.com about her new single, her relationship with music, her future international plans and her views on the changing face of the contest.

When will your new album be out?

At the end of this year hopefully

What can we expect from it, how will it be different to your previous album, Accident prone, for example?

I think every year with every new project I grow more, I mature more, and I try to better myself as an artist. I continuously make music the focus of my life and so I am constantly surrounded by it and I am inspired. This new album is more mature, it tackles deeper issues….well not really issues, more thoughts in my head and I feel that artistically it has led me to another level.

Could you live without your music, what does it mean to you?

I don't think I could ever imagine myself doing anything else, or if I was, without including music in my life. Music has given me a chance to be someone, to grow up strong and to get through those days when I just wanted to be invisible. It was like a catalyst and it brings out the passionate me.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
