Ira Losco, the popular Maltese artist that came 12 points short of winning the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest, has released her new single Something to talk about. Ira spoke to esctoday.com about her recent work and international projects as well as about her views on the changing face of the contest.
Ira's new single Something to talk about has been released in a limited edition that also includes These boots.. and Who I am, recorded live at the Vodafone Music Jam last March. You can listen to the new single here, through Ira's official site.
Ira spoke to esctoday.com about her new single, her relationship with music and her future international plans. She revealed to us that she has been asked to audition for the role of Esmeralda in the famous musical Notre Dame de Parisand she spoke ofher ongoing discussions for a European tour. Naturally, the conversation turned to Eurovision and Ira talked about her views on the changing face of the contest as participating artists turn to more mass appealing than "Eurovision style" choices. Finally, we discussed the EBU proposal for the changes in the contest's format this year: "I guess changing rules and trying them out and really trying to listen to the people who love this festival so much is already a step towards trying to be fair and give change a chance. That's a very good attitude!" Ira thinks.
Ira, coming from a country that feels victimised by neighbourly voting in the contest, also discussed with us her views on the reasons that lead certain countries to constistently vote for their neighbours: "I think it is due to these countries actually knowing the artists who take part. I take my little sister as an example, if Busted, from the UK, were to take part she would vote for them, because she knows them and is a fan regardless of the song or being somewhat a neighbouring country."
