Philip Kirkorov – a flamboyant fixture at the Eurovision Song Contest since his entry for Russia in 1995 – is bringing his manic show to Hollywood next year with an appearance at the Kodak Theatre.
Whether he means to appeal to the Los Angeles area's large, mostly-aging, Russian expatriate community concentrated in nearby West Hollywood, or whether he means to appeal to the producers of much of American pop-culture remains to be seen. However next March Kirkorov certainly means to fill the same hall that hosts the annual motion picture Academy Awards show. As the Kodak Theatre writes in promotional material: "Philip Kirkorov, known as "The King of Russian Pop," is considered a living legend of Russian show business. With innovative performances, an unprecedented unique style and incredible voice, Philip brings new life sic into Russian popular music."
The Russian pop king will appear at the Kodak Theatre home of the glamourous Academy Awards show – better known as the Oscars – on 23 March 2008. Tickets range from $44 (USD) to $229 (USD) and are on sale now. Sertab Erener appears at the Kodak Theatre two weeks from now. (Ticket information here)
Philip Kirkorov's most recent contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest was the song "Work your magic" which he co-wrote for Dmitry Koldun who entered for Belarus. Kirkorov was on hand in Helsinki eagerly meeting with fans and journalists and guiding Koldun's public appearances.
