Danish broadcaster, DR, has announced that the dates for the 2008 Melodi Grand Prix competition to select the nation's next Eurovision Song Contest entry have been adjusted.
The two semi finals have each been moved forwards so that all shows will now take place on Saturday nights. There will then be a two week gap before the final. As previously announced, songs must be submitted to DR by October 10th 2007 for selection and only entries from Danish songwriters or with strong Danish connections will be eligable.
The dates are now:
- 12th January 2008: First semi final
- 19th January 2008: Second semi final
- 2nd February: The Melodi Grand Prix final
The reason given for the change is that the broadcaster wants to get the best possible programme slots for the show. The change may also be to better facilitate the semi final host cities and venues. The viewing figures for the two semi finals in 2007 were not as high as had been hoped, and by moving the show to prime time Saturday night slots, DR will be expecting improvements in 2008.
