OGAE UK has announced that Uited Kingdom's 2006 Eurovision representative Daz Sampson and semi final commentator, Paddy OConnell will be the special guests at its forthcoming annual get-together, The Birmingham Bash 2 on Saturday 6 October at Jurys Inn Hotel, Birmingham.
Daz and Paddy will be talking about their Eurovision experiences during an hour-long chat with fans. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions, find out the backstage gossip and discover what really happens at the world’s most famous music festival.
Daz Sampson said: “To be in the same room as Paddy O’Connell again will be an honour, as the guy was nothing short of a legend for me in Athens at the 2006 Eurovision. In fact he is one of the reasons why I aspire to enter this great Contest again.”
Commenting on being asked to take part in The Birmingham Bash 2, Paddy O’Connell said: "They searched Europe and came up with me. Perhaps they could have had Grandma Boonika, or some of the Riverdancers. But Birmingham's loss is my gain, and I'm very happy that to realise my Euro dreams don't have to wait until May!"
Paul Marks-Jones, one of the Bash’s organising committee members said: “We are delighted that Daz and Paddy accepted our invitation to come along to the Bash. I know that many Eurovision fans respect both Daz and Paddy for their genuine interest in the Contest. Their insights promise to be both revealing and entertaining, and I’m certain their involvement in the Bash will be one the day’s highlights. This year marked the UK’s 50th entry into the Contest, so we’ll be looking forward to Daz and Paddy’s British take on things.”
Other events on offer during the day include a Weakest Link style quiz, an intriguing Eurovision style contest, a glitzy Awards ceremony with special Stars in their Eyes performances and a fantastic disco.
