Yesterday, the first edition of the Eurovision Dance Contest took place in London. One day after the show, let's take a look at the viewing figures in the various countries that have taken part.
Portugal
The show was very succesful in Portugal: 1,4 million peopla watches the show which means a market share of 43.7 %. It was by far the most popular show of the day and is so far even one of the most popular shows in 2007 and was watched by more people than the Eurovision Song Contest from Helsinki.
Germany
3,10 million people watched the show which means a market share of 12.5 %. The pre-show (hosted by 2006 Eurovision Song Contest national final and 2007 Eurovision Dance Contest national final participant Thomas Anders) was watched by 2.61 million people, giving it amarket share of 10.2 %.The show was by far less popular than the Eurovision Song Contest butstill was the third most popular program in the evening.
Austria
In Austria, an average market share was achieved when 678,000 people watched the show giving it a market share of about 11 %.
Sweden
Like the Eurovision Song Contest, the Eurovision Dance Contest was very popular in Sweden: 1.2 million people watched the show, which means about 13 % of the whole population.
Netherlands
758,000 people watched the show in the Netherlands, making it the 10th most popular program of the day ang giving it a market share of 13.9 %. 631,000 people watched the pre-show which means 12.1 % market share.
Israel
About 80,000 households of all the population in Israel watched the Eurovision Dance contest live, although Israel did not participate in the contest. In average, this figure means that 4,5% of all the population in Israel watched the contest, making it an average of 8,3% market share. According to IBA's recent statement, Israel is expected to participate in next year's dance contest.
United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom,3.8 million people watched the show, giving it a market share of 18 %.
Spain
2.185 million people watched the show in Spain (market share: 21.1 % / rating: 5.1 %) making it the 4th most popular program of the day.
Switzerland
353,000 people viewed the Swiss German broadcast of the programme on Swiss Television's SF1 (market share: 25.1 %) according to figures provided by a Swiss Television spokesperson who said, "In view of the fact that Swiss tennis hero Roger Federer's tennis match was programmed on our second channel, SF zwei, at the same time – the rating is not too bad."
Swiss Television's Italian language broadcaster TSI reports that they had an 18.1% share (or a 4.7% rating) for the Dance Contest in their market. Swiss Television's French language broadcaster TSR did not carry the show.
