Even if she has disappeared from the big media, Nicole Rieu is still very active in the music business. She actually organizes her own singing training, under the name “Je chante donc je suis” (I sing, therefore I am”).
The title refers to French philosopher Descartes' statement ("Je pense donc je suis", I think, therefore I am) but also to Nicole's first big hit, "Je suis" (I am), back in 1974. The song is a classic and was, at the time, part of a musical published on record but never staged.
In many interviews, Nicole Rieu clearly said that she was not very comfortable with the rules of show business, and that she wanted to develop her own style. A few singles, LPs and CDs have been released over 30 years, with new material and old, re-recorded. Recently, Nicole has presented a new performance entitled "En voix". She also takes part in a collective show, "Ca va chanter", comprising songs in French and Provençal, in which Guy Bonnet (France 70 and 83) also sings.
