Verka nominated to run for Ukrainian elections!

Andrei Danilko aka drag queen Verka Serduchka has been nominated to stand for the forthcoming elections in Ukraine scheduled to be held on the 30th of September. Media around the world report that the 2007 Ukrainian Eurovision representative has been chosen by the ” For our own!” coalition block to stand as the number one candidate on their list.

The Liberal Democratic Party, the Women of Ukraine Party and Communist Party of Workers have formed the For our own bloc to run in the upcoming election for the Supreme Rada (the Ukrainian Parliament). First on the list of candidates is Andrei Danilko, followed by the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party lgor Dushin andbusinessmanDenis Shevchuk.

Andrei Danilko himself though has not comfimed officially yet that he'll run for parliament. The deadline for parties and blocs to submit their candidates is next Monday. Still the news has made headlines around the world, with various news agencies and newspapers running the story. Verka, whois a mega star in native Ukraine and in neighbouring countries, achieved 2nd placing in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki with her mega hit Lasha Tumbai!.

It is also reported that Verka's party hasn't been registeredyet withTheCentral Electoral Commission for the forthcoming parliamentary elections scheduled to be held on the 30th of September in Ukraine. We will keep you posted with the latest developments on this story.
