Johnny Logan, known to many as Mister Eurovision for winning the contest three times as a singer and a composer, has achieved the first number one placing for an album in his entire career topping the Norwegian charts this week with The Irish Connection.

The Irish Connection was released last April and since then has achieved platinum status in Norway, golden status in Denmark where it is currently charting at #5 and this week it has topped the Norwegian charts. Although Johnny Logan has had many number 1 singles in his career this is the first time an album of his reaches first place. Moreover, this is the first album he has produced himself besidesdoing all the vocals including the choir parts. "I'm really over the moon. While I have had several number one singles, I've never in my entire career had a number one album. It's fantastic! I'm really chuffed. I'm going to be presented with gold and platinum discs for sales in Denmark and Norway, and it's being released in Sweden in October," Johnny told Independent.ie.

The Irish Connection will not be released in Ireland though. As the artist himself said "It's really not something for the purists. I just wanted to make this sort of Irish music accessible to crowds abroad, and it's certainly worked!". But Johhny will be visiting his homeland for one single concert, the first in over ten years, on October 21st in Vicar Street. He will be joined by his band and he promises to perform every one of his songs the people would like to hear "from the Eurovision hits to Irish music classics.

Johnny will be performing next, together with Alphaville, on August 18 at Rottweil, Germany and on the 19th he will be joined by Paul Young, Haddaway and the Allstarband in the Voices- The Allstar project in Dortmund. For more information click here.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain.

I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
