Rafael Artesero wins contest in the Canaries

Rafael Artesero, composer of the 2005 and 2006 Andorran entries to the Eurovision Song Contest, has achieved an important victory in the annual La Candelaria Festival, held in the Canarian island of Tenerife. Ley le lee, the song that Artesero submitted to the Spanish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 Misión Eurovisión was awarded with the first prize, 12,000 Euros and the Gold Conch.

Ley le lee was defended in La Candelaria Festival by the singer Virginia Trujillo, born in Bilbao but living in Ibiza. Virginia is Rafael Artesero's niece and was selected by his uncle to participate in this contest, very popular in the Canary Islands and also well-known in Argentina and Venzuela, amongst other countries.

Rafael Artesero's theme reached the first place in La Candelaria after beating the otherseven competing entries in the final stage, which took place last August 3rd. A total amount of 87 candidate songs were submitted. 12 of them were qualified for the semifinal. Then, the number was shorlisted toeight songs that competed in the final round. As Rafael Artesero won, he was awarded with 12,000 Euros and the Gold Conch.

Ley le lee participated in the Spanish preselection Misión Eurovisión. It did not succeed to qualify for the final round in the category of songs, but the other Rafael Artesero's entry, La reina de la noche, created in collaboration with José Juan Santana, was placed 2nd in the final, just behind I love you mi vida.
